The Prague trade exhibitions ended in 1948 when they were transferred to Brno. Since then the building has been used as administrative offices for various state enterprise firms. After a devastating fire on 14 August 1974 the building was renovated and converted by sial to the Gallery of Modern Art with some additional business premises. It is a very fitting piece of architecture which complements objects of modern art and becomes a showpiece itself.
In 1930 Le Corbusier noted: 'When I first saw the Trade Fairs Building I felt totally depressed; although I did not approve of the building whole-heartedly, I realized that the large and convergent structures I had been dreaming of really existed somewhere, while at that time I had just built a few small villas'.
