Some Czech architects (Pavel Janak, Josef Gocar, Vlastislav Hofman, and Josef Chochol) rebelled against this attitude, which they thought too simplistic, and which cut them off from working with other artists. They therefore welcomed with enthusiasm the Cubist style of painting as another common inspiration which could bring all the arts together again, and formed their own group, Skupina vytvarnych umelcu, to support their new attitude to design.
Chochol's motto 'new equals better' involved him with Cubism with maximum impulse and that is clearly manifested in the Hodek Building. This is one of the most extraordinary Cubist creations, perfectly exploiting the street-corner position and giving focus to the whole composition.
