Ladislav Zak 1932-1933

This small building, built for an aircraft engineer, is another of Ladislav Zak's masterpieces. It is situated on an elevated position overlooking Kbely Plain, where Prague's main airport used to be situated.

The form of the building, with its sun-bathing terrace, is reminiscent of an aeroplane body and includes a roof observation platform provided at the request of the owner. The terrace at first-floor level could be surrounded by blinds, concealed when not in use in an overhanging frame. The structure is of reinforced concrete, rendered over steel mesh, and was sprayed originally with a pale beige colour wash. Windows were steel with timber cores.

Regrettably, the structure housing the terrace blinds has been removed and the villa is surrounded closely by mature trees making it difficult to appreciate fully its unusual form. The view from the observation platform is now obscured by neighbouring villas.
