Architect, furniture designer, urbanist and theoretician, studied at the Czech Institute of Technology in Prague under Professor Josef Schulz and at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Otto Wagner. Janak worked for Jan Kotera between 1908 and 1909. A member of Manes, Skupina vytvarnych umelcu, an editor of art magazine Vytvarna prace, a professor at the Institute of Decorative Arts from 1921 to 1942. The chief architect of Prague Castle following Joze Plecnik in 1936. A founding architect of Czech Cubism and Functionalism.
