In September this year ellipsis published its first and so far its only novel, The Folded Lie by Jeremy Cooper.* In a way, we knew we were not the right publishers to take on this book, simply because fiction publishing in the UK is notoriously a closed network to which we don't belong. Selling novels depends on reviews; getting reviews depends on matey contacts with literary editors and attendance at the right parties; for all we know, belonging to the Groucho is a sine qua non for entry to this world.*
